LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) - Over 500,000 pounds of unwanted medicine are out of people’s homes after National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
On Oct. 25, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) joined 4,263 law enforcement agencies across the country in the 29th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
At 4,317 collection sites nationwide, Take Back events removed 571,054 pounds of unneeded and expired medications from home medicine cabinets to prevent drug misuse before it starts.
In the Louisville Division, which encompasses Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia, officials and partners collected more than 34,000 pounds.
Tennessee led the division’s collection efforts with 18,554.27 pounds
Kentucky was second with 11,338.8 pounds
West Virginia removed 4,191.9 pounds
