LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Over the next couple of weeks, you might notice workers planting new trees around Louisville. That’s because tree planting season is just beginning.

Louisville Parks and Recreation’s Urban Forestry Division harvests hundreds of trees each season.

Crews help plant and maintain the thousands of trees that keep Louisville green. The trees are cared for at a nursery to make sure they’re strong enough to thrive wherever they’re planted.

Some trees take longer to mature than others, so there’s a lot of planning that goes into each planting and harvest.

“So the idea is to have a steady rotation,” Chris Cornelius, Urban Forestry Landscape Supervisor, said. “We don’t want to repopulate the nursery all at once because we will have a massive influx of trees for one season
