PARIS, Maine — The Maine State Police are asking for the public’s help in solving the 1989 homicide of Steven O’Neil, who died in a house fire investigators say was intentionally set.
According to a Monday social media post from the Maine State Police , the fire broke out around 2 a.m. on Nov. 3, 1989, at a residential home in South Paris. Investigators later determined the blaze had been started with a flammable liquid.
O’Neil, whose age was not released, died in the fire. State police said a suspect has been interviewed in connection with the case.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted by calling the Maine State Police at (207) 624-7076, extension 9, or by using the department’s online tip form.
