GREENSBORO, N.C. — Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act is underway, and the usual recommendation is: don't wait —sign up for a new plan to avoid a lapse in coverage.
But you can wait until December 15th to sign up and still be covered on January 1. Why would you wait this time? Well, to see if Congress extends the tax credits and subsidies on healthcare plans.
"The rate by providers hasn't changed, but if you were not eligible for a tax credit and you were paying $1,000 this year, you'll pay the same. But the tax credit changes have been so substantial, the folks who were getting a credit, it's not as big, so their out-of-pocket costs are significantly different," said Christopher Cook, Alliance Insurance Services.
