LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -Bryan Grochowski spends his weekdays in a cubicle at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy as an environmental quality analyst.

“I’m technically a hazardous waste inspector,” Grochowski said.

Once a week, he’s in the field making sure businesses aren’t dumping toxic chemicals into the Michigan environment. He calls himself “the hazardous waste sheriff.”

On a smaller scale, Grochowski has become a litter lieutenant. He started using the “Litterati” app seven years ago to track his daily trash collection.

“I started to recognize that if I’m going to be walking an area regularly, I’d like it to be clean,” Grochowski said.

Combined with his competitive nature, Grochowski set his sights on the app’s top 100 list.
