NORRISTOWN — An Upper Providence Township woman who admitted to embezzling more than $187,000 while performing bookkeeping duties for a woman who owned an interior design business was spared a stint behind bars due to her cancer diagnosis and ongoing medical treatment.
“You deserve incarceration, but it’s the health condition that is driving my decision,” Montgomery County Judge Thomas M. DelRicci addressed admitted thief Jennifer Ann Johnson as he sentenced her to 11½-to-23-months of house arrest on electronic monitoring. “I can’t order the prison to take care of her medically. I don’t have that authority.”
Those under house arrest can leave their homes only for court-approved purposes such as work or medical appointments. Testimony revealed Johnson is undergoing cancer treatments.
