Ganderbal, Nov 03: Residents of Gadoora area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday staged a protest against the installation of smart electricity meters in their locality, demanding that the ongoing drive be immediately stopped.
Dozens of locals, mostly women, took to the streets, raising slogans against the Power Development Department (PDD) and expressed anger over what they termed as an “anti-poor” move. They said they belong to low-income families and can’t afford higher bills that come with new smart meters.
“We are poor people. Paying for food and education is already a struggle. Not everyone here lives in posh colonies or has a fixed income,” said a protesting woman, holding a placard demanding the rollback of the installation.
