Police at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville say there appears to be no evidence of an active attacker on the grounds as originally thought.

According to a statement from a UVA spokesperson, the UVA Department of Safety & Security began sending alerts to students and staff shortly after 3 p.m. Nov. 3 that an suspect had been reported in the area of the Edgar Shannon Library on McCormick Road. Students and staff were put on an "Access Control" status, essentially locking down the grounds.

About 40 minutes later, the department sent an update saying that while UVA Police were still on the scene, "at this time there is no evidence of an Active Attacker."
