INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Health Department is investigating a sewage backup at Perry Meridian High School Monday.

According to school officials, a lift station failure caused water to back up through drains in the mechanical room and one restroom on the lower level of the building Nov. 3.

School officials said there was a noticeable odor initially, but it quickly dissipated after fans and additional ventilation were put in place.

The health department issued a 24-hour emergency order requiring immediate repair of the lift station and cleanup of the affected areas.

Inspectors noted that school administrators were already working on remediation efforts, including sewage removal and sanitation.
