CLEVELAND, Ohio — Attempted murder and rape charges against two young children accused of torturing a 5-year-old in Cleveland will proceed in the public eye , a Cuyahoga County judge said Monday.

Attorneys for a 10-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy previously sought to close court proceedings to the public and media, arguing that scrutiny would harm their clients.

Cuyahoga County prosecutors and local news outlets opposed closing the high-profile case. Prosecutors argued limits could be placed on taking photos or videos of witnesses or the victim but that hearings should otherwise remain open.
