LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — As the federal government shutdown approaches tying the 35-day record set under President Donald Trump's first term, U.S. Senator Tom Cotton is hoping what he sees as the Democrats coming "to their senses" to bring an end to the shutdown.
The current shutdown has led to around 900,000 federal employees being furloughed and many more working without pay. In addition, SNAP benefits are in limbo, leaving the 42 million Americans who rely on those funds to figure out a way to put food on the table.
So far, the majority of Senate Democrats have voted down the resolution 13 times saying that the president and his party should negotiate a deal with them. The Democrats have focused on a promise from Republicans to extend subsidies for the Affordable Care Act so premium pric
