CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Southern New Englanders have really stepped up at a time of great need.
The Narragansett Council of Scouting America announced Monday that over 120 tons of food was collected during this year's Scouting for Food drive, more than doubling last year's efforts.
The donations also pushed Scouting America past 10 million pounds of food collected in total since the drive started 38 years ago.
Narragansett Council CEO Tim McCandless said this year's drive was especially critical due to the prevalence of food insecurity and the recent suspension in SNAP benefits.
