Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata understands the difficulties his old club face when trying to escape a poor run of form. The Spaniard arrived at Old Trafford as a record signing from Chelsea in January 2014, but witnessed the club struggle to convert substantial investment into success on the pitch.

Now aged 37 and plying his trade in Australia, Mata has observed United manager Ruben Amorim and previous bosses battle with consistency at Old Trafford and reckons it's a familiar problem.
