COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s latest school report cards show more schools improving their overall ratings, but educators say students are still struggling in key areas such as math, College and Career Readiness and attendance.
More than a quarter of elementary schools and nearly one in three middle schools improved their overall ratings from last year. The state’s on-time graduation rate also reached a 10-year high of 86.7%.
But Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver said the numbers show there’s still work to do.
“We have to ensure that when students leave our high schools, that when they're going into the workforce, they are meeting the expectations of the employers that are hiring them,” Weaver said.
