An Oregon father whose toddler drowned in the Siletz River while he allegedly failed to keep watch pleaded not guilty Monday to a single count of second-degree child neglect. His wife is speaking out about the Lincoln County district attorney’s decision to charge him.

Dane Paulsen, 2, was reported missing from the family’s riverfront home in Siletz March 1 — prompting a massive search-and-rescue operation that stretched until March 11, when a diver recovered Dane’s body from the river 3 miles downstream.

Authorities announced that the boy had drowned and said there was no indication of foul play.
