The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to provide partial food stamp benefits in November after federal courts ordered the agency to use contingency funds during the ongoing government shutdown, CBS News reports.

More than 42 million Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive about half of their normal benefits, CBS said. Patrick Penn, a USDA official overseeing SNAP, stated in a court declaration that the administration “intends to deplete SNAP contingency funds completely and provide reduced SNAP benefits for November 2025.”
