WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. —
Over $11 million will now be used to fund essential human services in Westmoreland County during the state budget impasse. The county commission approved the use of a state treasurer’s bridge loan on Monday.
“This is a vote I hated to cast,” Commissioner Ted Kopas said. “It’s really shameful that we have to. This is not a good day for the county government. It’s not a good day for our taxpayers. They’re now being forced to pay additional interest costs on money that is, rightfully, intended for counties anyway. It’s a shame we have to do this.” Advertisement
Pennsylvania has been without a state budget for four months.
In response, the commission applied for a bridge loan worth $14 million through the state treasurer’s office.
The office sent back $11.6 mil
