Vancouver city officials, staff and other local dignitaries will fly to Joyo, Japan, on Wednesday to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Vancouver-Joyo sister city partnership .
“This will be a quick trip, focused on the anniversary,” Vancouver Councilor and Mayor Pro Tem Erik Paulsen said.
Building relationships in Joyo and other parts of Japan “is important to the economic vitality of our region,” Paulsen said. “So anything I can do to help solidify and build on those relationships, I’m happy to do.”
This will be Paulsen’s second trip to Joyo. The last time he went, in 2023, Paulsen also traveled to Japan’s capital to learn more about the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo.
