MADISON (WKOW) -- Family members of a husband and wife who were killed in a fiery crash in the Town of Verona have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Tesla.
The lawsuit comes from family members of Jeffrey and Michelle Bauer. The Bauers were in a Tesla Model S with Barry Sievers, Joshua Stahl, and Tammy Stahl on November 1, 2024 when the vehicle crashed along Range Trail. The Dane County Sheriff's Office said the vehicle went off the road, hit a tree and started on fire. All five people in the vehicle died at the scene.
The lawsuit claims the Tesla's electronic door systems failed when the car lost power, which trapped everyone inside. It alleges that Tesla did not provide adequate crashworthiness protection against foreseeable post-collision fire hazards.
