CHARDON, Ohio — Several Geauga County parks will temporarily close this fall and winter as part of the Geauga Park District’s annual controlled hunting program.

According to the district, Troy Wetlands will close Nov. 15–20; Observatory Park will close Dec. 1–2; The West Woods will close Dec. 4–5; Big Creek Park will close Dec. 20; and The Rookery will close Jan. 3.

The hunting program, in place since the 2007–08 season, is used to maintain healthy, balanced populations of plants and animals across park properties. Officials describe it as a “proactive management tool” that supports the district’s conservation mission.

Signs and park rangers will be present at affected entrances to remind visitors of the closures. Closure information is also available under the “Park & Trail Alert” tab
