NEW ORLEANS — As one of the more than 42 million Americans who rely on SNAP benefits, Caprice Keeler is worried.

“Now I’m at a place where I’m trying to figure out if I’m going to pay my rent and my light bill or feed my kids,” said Keeler.

The New Orleans mother of four says she typically gets about $950 a month in SNAP benefits. That stopped because of the government shutdown. While she’s hoping she’ll get something from the state because of her disabled son, she knows it won’t be enough.

“I reached out to food banks, but a lot of them are in the East and don’t have a way there. So, it’s like, how am I going to get there to even get the food,” said Keeler.
