NEW ORLEANS — An overgrown lot next to George Washington Carver High School was once called the "Field of Dreams." But 17 years after it was first proposed, the dream of a new stadium in New Orleans' Ninth Ward remains unfulfilled.
"We have been working each and every day to try to raise the funds to be able to build what will be an incredibly impactful complex for the youth of New Orleans," said Arnie Fielkow, a former New Orleans City Council member who now leads the nonprofit pushing to get the stadium built.
Carver High safety Rayheinz Henry and quarterback Leonard Watson say the stadium means more than just a home field.
"It is something bigger than myself or the team or the school, it's something to bring the community and New Orleans together," Henry said.
