SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A tractor-trailer hauling equipment for the Vandegrift High School marching band was struck by a train Monday afternoon in San Antonio, according to school officials.
The truck was headed to the Alamodome for the UIL State Marching Band Competition when it became stranded on train tracks and was hit by a moving train, Principal Charlie Little said in a message to families.
No students were near the scene or witnessed the crash, officials said. The driver and passenger got out safely before the collision.
Little said most of the instruments were unharmed, with damage limited mainly to the truck’s cab. School administrators are working with UIL officials to recover equipment from the vehicle.
