STOW, Ohio — A former prominent criminal defense attorney was charged Monday, months after Hudson police shot him as he ran at officers while wielding a hammer.
Carlos Warner , a former assistant federal public defender, is charged in Stow Municipal Court with felonious assault, a first-degree felony, and vandalism, a fifth-degree felony.
Warner is accused of smashing gas station windows while walking barefoot, then charging at police officers, who repeatedly ordered him to stop and drop his hammer, according to body camera video .
Defense attorney Michael Goldberg criticized prosecutors for filing the first-degree felony charge, which carries a maximum penalty of 11 years in prison.
