KENT COUNTY, Mich. —
After getting his life sentence changed to just 25 years for murder, a man may be back in prison for another 20 years after deputies say he led them on a chase and then broke into a Belmont retirement community on Oct. 30.
Cody Jerome Skaggs, 46, was denied pretrial release and is facing seven felony charges stemming from the incident. The list includes: first-degree home invasion, breaking and entering a building with intent, two charges of third-degree fleeing and eluding, felonious assault, fourth-degree fleeing and eluding a police officer, and /resisting/obstructing a police officer.
Skaggs had a felony warrant for absconding from parole after he was released around a year ago for the 1996 murder of Wyoming restaurant manager Richard Morris.
