ASHTABULA, Ohio — The Ashtabula Area City School District has filed a federal lawsuit against Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, alleging the insurer refused to pay claims for repairs to Lakeside High School nearly a year after a roof collapse during a snowstorm left the building unusable.

The lawsuit, filed by Merlin Law Group, accuses Liberty Mutual of unfair claims practices and failing to honor its policy obligations. The district says the insurer has denied responsibility for damage caused by the Dec. 1, 2024, collapse and delayed payment on the claim despite extensive cooperation from school officials.
