Melanie Joly tells House committee measures underway to recoup government money after automaker shuts Brampton production base

OTTAWA — The government is seeking formal resolution from a major North American automaker for shuttering production in Canada.

Testifying Monday morning before the House industry committee, Industry Minister Melanie Joly said the Government of Canada will be seeking to recover tax dollars given to Stellantis to further its production infrastructure here in Canada.

“Before the close of business (on Monday), the government will take the next step under the contracts to recover Canadian taxpayers’ money,” Joly told committee members.
