Governor Gavin Newsom, joined by Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris, leads the “Yes on 50” campaign, calling it a defense of California’s values and a pushback against Republican-led gerrymandering in other states. The California GOP, led by spokesperson Matt Shupe, argues that Prop. 50 is a partisan move and urges voters to reject it. As of Sunday, 26% of ballots had been returned, with Democrats accounting for just over half of early votes.
