3Syracuse man arrested after pit bull and owner slashed with blade in East Willow Street attack

SYRACUSE, NY – A man is behind bars after a violent attack on both a dog and its owner earlier this month, leaving a pit bull named Chance critically injured and sparking a multi-agency animal abuse investigation.

Syracuse Police were called to the 500 block of East Willow Street on October 21 for a report of a suspicious person with a weapon. When officers arrived, they found Chance, a pit bull, suffering from serious injuries caused by a bladed weapon. The dog was transported to Humane CNY, where it received intensive care and has since made a full recovery.

Investigators later identified 47-year-old Raqueeb Shadreem as the suspect in the attack. Police say Shadreem assaulted both the dog
