BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) - Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee served over 1,000 families Monday in their first mass food distribution of the week.

Friday, the nonprofit announced it would be distributing food boxes as part of its emergency plan to combat the lapse of SNAP benefits.

Second Harvest executive director Rhonda Chafin said the plan is to visit each county they cover each day this week.

Those who come will need to provide their ID and SNAP card to prove they are from the area. Also, if someone is picking up for another family, they will need the SNAP card and proof of address for that family.

Chafin asks those who come to the distributions to only come to the one in their area in order to have enough to help everyone.
