A now-former teacher has been charged with assaulting two students, according to deputies with the Surry County Sheriff’s Office.
On Oct. 28, the Surry County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer assigned to Flat Rock Elementary School was notified after school hours about reports of a teacher who assaulted two students.
An investigation began, and as a result, Anesia Gaye Bridges, 55, a Pre-K teacher at Flat Rock, was charged on Oct. 30 with two counts of assault on a child under 12. Bridges, 55, turned herself in on Oct. 31.

Officials said she was given a $2,000 bond and is due in court on Nov. 12.
