ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has shut down a portion of US Highway 231 near Pell City to repair a sinkhole that’s opened several times since July .
ALDOT Operational Engineer Dee McDaniel says this latest project will help keep the sinkhole from opening again.
“We turned it over to our offices in Montgomery where they developed a design for us long-term to make the final repair. So, obviously it took some time to make that design and determination and to also get a quote from our contractor,” said McDaniel.
With such a unique location for this sinkhole. McDaniel says it’s not uncommon to have them.
Confident in what they’re calling a permanent solution, ALDOT engineers say they don’t foresee anymore issues at the US Hwy 23
