Portland housing bureau director on paid leave amid split with mayor

The top official charged with guiding the city of Portland’s response to its housing crunch is on paid administrative leave.

Helmi Hisserich was hired in February 2024 to much fanfare as the bureau’s first permanent leader in more than a year after the prior director, Shannon Callahan, resigned in 2022 .
