SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A piece of land in the Leeds area of Sioux City moved a step closer to a zoning change Monday night.

The Sioux City City Council voted 3-2 to approve the first reading of the zoning change for property at 3700 Jefferson Street.

If the change passes a second and third reading at future council meetings, the zoning would change from “General Commercial” to “General Industrial.”

Dolf Ivener, the developer who petitioned for the zoning change, said it’s necessary to secure the reclassification first to find potential investors.

Several members of the Leeds community spoke out against the change during the meeting, including Ron Koch, Leeds Elementary School principal, and Barry Bohlke, the president of the Leeds Community Club.
