Morrisville, N.Y. — A 20-year-old man shot Monday at a SUNY Morrisville dormitory is expected to live, officials said.

The man, who does not attend the college, was shot in the neck at about 3:15 p.m., officials said. He was taken by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Maj. Kevin Reilly, the commander of State Police Troop D, which is based in Oneida, said at a news conference Monday evening that the shooting was a “single, targeted event.”

Reilly declined to describe any suspects wanted in the shooting or release more details about what happened. He said there is no ongoing threat to the campus in rural Madison County.

After the shooting was reported, SUNY officials immediately placed the campus on lockdown and directed students and staff to shelter in place.
