MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Governor Jeff Landry proclaimed that Nov. 2-8 will be dubbed Drowsy Driving Prevention Week in Louisiana, led by the National Sleep Foundation ( NSF).
Gov. Landry and Executive Director of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission ( LHSC) Lisa Freeman are calling on all citizens to prioritize sleep and only drive when alert and refreshed.
Drowsy Driving occurs when a driver gets behind the wheel when they’re too fatigued to remain alert. The NSF suggests ‘drowsy’ is the fourth D of distracted driving.
The Four D’s of Distracted Driving are:
Drunk
Drugged
Distracted
Drowsy
The NSF’s 2024 Drowsy Driving survey cited data that indicated that drowsy driving is implicated in 21 percent of all motor vehicle crashes resulting in death.
