TIPTON COUNTY, Ind. — The Tipton County Sheriff's Office is urging Hoosiers to be aware of a wave of scam calls related to jail inmates' bonds.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff's office indicated that the scam is still ongoing. The scammer's gambit, according to TCSO, is calling unsuspecting Hoosiers and claiming to be the sheriff's office. While claiming to be the sheriff's office, the scammers demand they be paid for an inmate's bond.
The sheriff's office reported that this type of scam is not totally uncommon. The scams that have been reported in Tipton County, however, are unique because the scammers request bond be paid for someone who was actually arrested and booked into jail.
TCSO reported that it does not contact civilians to ask them for money for inmates' bonds. The sheriff's
