A former Murray High School teacher accused of rape and sexual abuse charges was arraigned in Calloway Circuit Court Monday.
The Murray Sentinel reported 47-year-old Jason Shelby will next appear in court January 20th. Shelby was arrested in September after a former student came forward in August alleging a sexual relationship with him.
Kentucky State Police began investigating Shelby in 2018 after receiving reports about possible sexual relations between Shelby and at least two MHS students. At the time, there wasn't enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant until this year.
Shelby resigned his teaching position in 2018 and surrendered his teaching certificate in 2019. He had taught at the school from 2002 until his resignation.
