Clarkston captured fifth place and Midland came seventh in Saturday’s D1 boys cross country state championship hosted by Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
That marked a solid improvement for both from last year when the Mavs and Wolves finished 11th and 12th, respectively.
Led by junior Brandon Cloud (2nd place), Northville (125 points) repeated as state champs in the boys race thanks to Cloud and two others finishing inside the top-10, which also included Milford senior Kyle O’Rourke, who came fifth (15:00.2). Clarkston finished with 211 points and Milford totaled 224.
Clarkston produced the highest team finish of any Oakland County program. Wolves senior Ryan Barnes took 12th (15:18.8) and classmate David Dubeck wasn’t far behind him, ending in 17th (15:24.2).
