SAN JOSE – A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Monday evening in San Jose, police said.

The fatal collision was reported just after 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of South First and Martha streets, the San Jose Police Department said in a social media post.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where they died from sustained injuries, police said.

Additional details about the collision were not immediately available Monday evening.

“This investigation is active and ongoing,” police said.

The death marks the city’s 34th traffic fatality of the year. San Jose had recorded 44 deaths at the same point in 2024.
