BEAUMONT, Texas — Ahead of Election Day tomorrow, Beaumont voters will decide on Proposition A — a $58 million bond proposal that would fund street and drainage improvements, along with a citywide sidewalk initiative.

City leaders say Prop A would help address flooding and bring more sidewalks to areas of the city where walking and bicycling are common modes of transportation.

“The first step in that sidewalk initiative is to develop a citywide sidewalk master plan,” said Amalia “Molly” Villarreal, Beaumont’s director of public works. “We estimate that that master plan will probably cost about $400,000 to $450,000 and then the balance of that $10 million then will go towards engineering design and construction.”

Money for sidewalks and drainage projects are both on the ballot.
