QUINCY (WGEM) - Contour Airlines’ inaugural flight out of Quincy took place Saturday, Nov. 1, and more flights are scheduled for the coming days. The ongoing government shutdown is looming large over the new partnership, but according to local officials, service is expected to continue.

Flights out of Quincy are covered under the government’s Essential Air Service program, or EAS.

WGEM previously reported extra funding was earmarked for EAS through Nov. 2, but since then an additional $111 million has been secured to keep the federal program up and running through Nov. 18.

Nothing is certain beyond that point, but city officials said they believe Contour will not leave travelers high and dry as the holidays approach — even if Contour is not immediately reimbursed for flights between Qu
