TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said there has been a significant drop in the deadly crashes in the county this year.
The PCSD said it compared the data between Jan. 1 to Oct. 31 of 2024 and 2025, and the data indicates close to a 40% drop in fatalities.
13 News spoke to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who explained that the success is due to the Traffic Safety section’s Special Enforcement Team, or “SET.”
“That’s what this team is for, to be out at the busiest times of the day at the busiest intersections,” Nanos said. “(We’re) trying to put a presence out there so that people know that you really need to be cautious. You really need to slow down a little bit.”
