(NewsNation) — Voters in Miami will cast their ballots Tuesday to choose, from a crowded field of candidates, who will become their next mayor.
Thirteen candidates are vying for the seat, replacing Miami’s term-limited Mayor Francis Suarez.
The top six candidates include Suarez’s father, former Miami Mayor Xavier Suarez; Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo; former City Manager Emilio González; Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins; and former Miami Commissioners Ken Russell and Alex Díaz de la Portilla. Russell and Higgins are both Democrats; the remaining candidates are Republicans.
President Donald Trump has made an endorsement in the race, which is nonpartisan, but his influence in the area is strong. Miami is set to become the site of his future presidential library.
