Veteran filmmaker and music composer Gangai Amaran, brother of legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, has come under fire online after a video showing him scolding a fan during a media interaction went viral. The clip, reportedly from an event commemorating lyricist Vaali’s death anniversary, has triggered widespread backlash, with many social media users calling the musician’s behaviour disrespectful.

In the circulating video, Gangai Amaran can be seen addressing reporters when a fan stands behind him. Turning to the man, the composer says, “Come on, you speak." The fan, assuming it was an invitation, steps forward to speak to the press. However, Amaran moves aside and sharply rebukes him, saying, “Is this how you stand behind when someone is talking?"
