The haze over Delhi has once again drawn attention to an issue that resurfaces every year: stubble burning.

Initially, the number of farm fires was relatively low, with only 25 incidents reported between September 15 and October 15 in Punjab and Haryana, a sharp decline from 559 cases recorded during the same period last year.

However, data from Nasa's Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) shows multiple spikes in fire activity in recent days, with noticeable surges captured by satellites on October 22, October 30, October 31, November 1 and November 3.
