EXCLUSIVE: Iraqi-Kurdish filmmaker Philip Rachid has been announced as a speaker at the upcoming HollyShorts Dubai as its inaugural edition takes shape.
The event, which is a spin-off of the popular long-running Oscar qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival in L.A., will run from December 12 to 14.
Rachid, who was born in Bulgaria and raised in the Netherlands, is a long-time Dubai resident. He made his short film debut in 2012 with Zol’a .
Other works include Happy Birthday , which was shot entirely on a Samsung phone, won the Samsung Short Film Competition prize at Dubai International Film Festival in 2014, and the award-winning 2018 work She , following seven women living in the UAE as they try to fulfil their life goals.
