Eight eager Popeyes fans have secured free chicken sandwiches for a year after some queued for over 18 hours to be the first in line at the Fort Kinnaird grand opening.

Despite the chilly November conditions, customers began queueing from 5pm on Sunday November 2 ahead of the opening at 11am the following day.

100 people in total joined the queue however it was Ossian, Stuart, Owen and Ahmed were first to arrive on foot, while Akash, Daniel, Mark and Daniel were the first four in the Park & Serve bays - all eight landed the prize of free Louisiana chicken sandwiches for a year.

Popeyes UK said they brought New Orleans energy to the Newington opening, treating fans to merchandise and lively music.
