Shah Bano Begum’s daughter, who fought a brave legal battle for alimony from her ex-husband, has filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court to stop the release of the Hindi film ‘Haq’, saying it misrepresents her mother’s personal life. The film, directed by Suparn S Varma, is set to release on Friday (November 7) and is inspired by the Shah Bano case, which led to a landmark Supreme Court judgment in 1985 about maintenance for Muslim women after divorce.

The movie stars Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar. Shah Bano’s daughter, Siddiqua Begum Khan, filed the petition in the Indore bench of the High Court, claiming the film was made without her family’s permission and misrepresents her late mother’s life.
