WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue football defensive coordinator Mike Scherer joked about coming up with a novel scout team approach to preparing for Ohio State star Jeremiah Smith.
Probably, he was kidding. Maybe no more than half-kidding, actually.
“You almost want to have one guy at the line of scrimmage and another guy waiting downfield with a No. 4 jersey on to get the real picture of what it’s going to be like,” Scherer said. “... It’s hard to mimic, but we’ll do everything we can.”
